Students in CSPGNO secondary schools will be taking part in a major arts project involving the creation of murals with the help of Mique Michelle, a well-known artist in this field.

From December 2017 to March 2018, Mique Michel will serve as an artist in residence in seven CSPGNO secondary schools. Her residence will result in the creation of a mural in each of these schools. Students will be closely involved in every step of the process, from design to unveiling. The murals will be painted by brush and aerosol and the students will determine their themes.

Mique Michelle (Dominique Boisvenue) is a Métis artist from Field (Ontario). She has created many impressive and vibrantly coloured murals on interior and exterior walls in public spaces in many Ontario communities. For an overview of Mique Michelle’s work, see her website at https://miquemichelle.com or her Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ mique.michelle.

This artist’s tour of CSPGNO’s schools is made possible with the support of the Ontario Arts Council’s Artist in Residence program, as well the Ministry of Education’s Indigenous Education Strategy, which helps teachers to include indigenous perspectives in Ontario’s curriculum.
